About Me

Jersey girl, born & raised. While I love my family and friends to death, I was desperate to live somewhere which wasn’t faced with snowy winters. I decided to embark on my college journey in a much more tropical climate: South Florida.

I spent seven years in a fun little beach town, where I learned more life lessons than I can count on two hands. From finances to relationships to careers, Florida shaped me into a very different person from the one I left the Jersey Shore as. Speaking of relationships, after five years in one I decided it was solid enough to follow him across the country and I landed in Austin in fall 2009.

And while we’re talking about life lessons, this relationship was one which would shape how I view dating for the rest of my life. We spent another five years together in Texas but ultimately decided our plans for the future were very different and parted ways in 2015.

So These Are My Thirties

It would be a blatant lie to say these past few years have been easy, but I’m thankful to have several outlets to help take my mind off of things. Whether it’s running, cooking, or traveling – there’s always something to focus my energy on.

My ride or dies: the beach, sarcasm, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, cream cheese frosting, Christmas, Red Sox & Patriots, iced coffee, Eric Church, running, cheese, Weezer, al fresco dining, Friends, Tito’s vodka, LaCroix, mimosas, and margherita pizza.

I could do without: olives, the Yankees, the Jets, the Giants, gold jewelry, Southern Comfort, hot dogs, summer running, oatmeal raisin cookies, Crocs, and Avatar.

  1. Just stumbled upon your blog. 🙂 Love Austin – I lived in San Marcos for 3 years and have developed quite the southern twang myself (California girl born & raised). Looking forward to following along on your adventures! 🙂

  2. Ok, we’re even shoe twins (wave riders and kinvaras here as well), and I’m a fellow list freak. (How did I not know you have a blog before now??? Added to my reader, jeepers.)

  3. Hey Melissa,
Came across your blog and loved it! Jersey Strong! We have an urban adventure race coming to Austin for the first time this weekend (November 2nd) and I wanted to offer you and a teammate free passes. I figure it will be something fun to do and write about. Email me and I’ll get you a code! Hope to see you Sunday!

  4. Just stumbled up your blog and love it! How I would love to live down in TX. These WI winters are killing me. I was looking at Dallas someday 🙂

  5. Hey! I just came across your blog! You mentioned going through various shoes as well as shin splints. That sounds like what I am dealing with right now. It’s nice to hear there can be a shoe out there for everyone, it’s just figuring it out! Also, I moved to Austin almost 2 years ago, so I love all your info on Austin!

    • I’ve actually changed shoes yet again from the ones listed here and still not sure it’s 100% the right one. It’s seriously an ongoing battle to find that “perfect” shoe – hope you find yours soon!

I moved to Austin about 4.5 years ago and there is still SO much to see here. This city is fantastic 🙂 Glad you liked my info!
